Administrative Organization

Iwaki Performing Arts Center ALIOS

History Between 1998 and 2000, the city government drafted new policy plans, which included organizing an artist-in-residence program. In 2001, a feasibility study was conducted to examine the compatibility between a residency program and the governments’ aim to develop innovative programs. The study concluded that a residency program meets the demand to encourage cultural exchange in the local community.

Outcomes

Model projects
A total of 126 people participated in the programs, and a total of 450 people visited the citizens’ theater as audience.
The resident artists inspired local residents to get engaged in their own artistic activities. Such experiences are expected to contribute in developing programs at the new cultural facility.
Regular programs
Reflecting on both the achievements and the problems of the model projects, efforts are made in attracting local residents’ interest in theater arts, by encouraging participation through increased opportunities, and  appreciation through progressive and innovative art programs.
