Facility Description The studio, formerly a vacant house, is located in the historic are where traditional houses with “udatsu” walls are preserved.
Home-stay accommodation is provided to artists.

By bus (from the Meitetsu Bus Center at “Nagoya” station):

Take the bus bound to “Mino City” station and get off at Ogura Koen Mae bus stop. (1hour  40 minutes)
History In 1997, this program was inaugurated as an artist in residence program supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. Since 2002, the program has been administered by Mino City.

Program Objective The program aims to promote paper art and local culture through the exchange between the artists and the citizens. Artists are provided with an opportunity to work with Mino paper, a traditional craft with 1,300 years of history.
Program Activities The program invites artists from all over the world. The resident artists stay at local volunteers’ homes and create artworks using Mino paper. Opportunities for community exchange is available through school workshops and exhibitions.

Types of Art All types of paper art that is rooted in daily life.
Residency Period 3 months (90 days)
Conditions
The artists are expected to
- be 20 years old or older.
- be in good health.
- purchase health insurance at participants’ own expense in their home country before traveling to Japan
- create artworks by using Mino paper during the residence.
- attend an opening ceremony of the exhibition and talk about their artworks.

Selection Process Selection committee, consisting of professionals and representatives of the local residents

From 1997 to 2006, 51 overseas artists from 26 countries and 7 Japanese artists have taken residency.
