Facility Name Norosan Rest House:
Facility Location Located in the national park “Mount Noro”, sightseeing spot in the city

Access By train: Get off at “Aki Kawajiri” station and drive for 30 minutes by car
History The project was inaugurated to enrich local residents’ life by creating an environment conducive to cultural activities and enhance cultural exchange through painting, to capitalize on the traditional local industry of brush manufacturing.

Program Objectives To invite Japanese and foreign artists, and encourage exchange among artists as well as with the local residents, in order to develop art and culture in the community.

  1. Presentation of the production process and completed artworks
  2. Events, in cooperation with various organizations
  3. Drawing class for children
  4. Art classes in schools, including local nursery schools, elementary schools, and junior high schools
  5. Seminars
  6. Norosan Artists’ Village Exchange  Exhibition (group exhibitions with local artists and amateur painters)

Outcomes

The program has gained wide recognition through past resident artists’ active involvement in exhibitions in Japan and overseas. The program has attempted to facilitate exchange with the local community through various channels, such as presentation of the resident artists’ working process to the public, communication with local artists, and instruction at art clubs in the community. The program has encouraged both production and appreciation of art among local residents, and has contributed to enriching the local culture.
