Facility Description

The studios are situated in the center of the second largest metropolis in Japan. The project embraces the urban development strategy based on the concept of “Creative City.” Located in the open spaces of the harbor city, the studio rooms are housed in  renovated historic buildings and warehouses.

Access

By air: Approximately 90 minutes by bus or train from Narita International Airport; Approximately 30 minutes by bus or train from Haneda / Tokyo International Airport.
By train: Approximately 30 minutes from “Tokyo” station; From Kyoto and Osaka, take Shinkansen to “Shin Yokohama” station (approximately 2 hours) and change to  local line (approximately 11 minutes).

for BankART Studio NYK: ”Bashamichi” station(Minato Mirai Line)

History

In 2005, Yokohama and Taipei launched the administrative exchange and has since carried out cultural and artistic exchange programs.

In 2006, Yokohama and Beijing launched the administrative exchange and started public exchange programs.

Program Objectives The project aims to realize the vision of “Creative City Yokohama” by preparing environment for artistic and cultural development and promoting cultural exchange with other Asian cities. Artists from various cities in Asia are invited to stay in Yokohama for a certain period of time to produce artworks and have exchange with local residents and artists.

Artists from Yokohama: Open call by BankART1929.
Artists from Taipei: Open call by Taipei Artist Village.
Artists from Beijing: Recommendation by independent curators.

Application from overseas artists directly made to Yokohama City will not be accepted.

Selection Process

Yokohama and Taipei: Selection committee organized by BankART1929 and Taipei Artist Village
Beijing: Recommendation by curators from both Yokohama and Beijing
