The Japan Foundation Awards / Special Prizes (2002) - Ceremony and Reception

On October 4, we held The Japan Foundation Awards and Special
Prizes Presentation Ceremony and a reception at a hotel in Tokyo, and were
honored by the presence of T.I.H. the Crown Prince and Princess, T.I.H.
Prince and Princess Takamado, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi,
and more than 400 guests.
The ceremony started with an opening address by President Hiroaki Fujii, and
congratulatory addresses were given by H.I.H. the Crown Prince and the Minister
of Foreign Affairs. Each awardee received the certificates and extra prizes
after introduction by Chairman Yoneo Ishii, and gave speeches in which they
referred to their relation to Japan so far, and their reflections on cultural
exchange in the world today.
After the ceremony, a reception was held in a genial mood, where T.I.H. the
Crown Prince and Princess and T.I.H. Prince and Princess Takamado had pleasant
talks with the awardees and many other guests who are dedicated to cultural
exchange in various fields.
