Library holds documents and works of Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai, founded in 1934.
A DVD Journal “Kokusai Bunka”
KBS issued its own journal, “Kokusai Bunka”, 1939-1972. A DVD version of “Kokusai Bunka” contains all 219 issues and it is available for use in the Library.
KBS Films
KBS Films were produced during 1930 to 1950 by Kokusai Bunka Shinkokai (founded in 1934), in order to introduce Japanese culture and society to overseas audience. The films, originally made in 16 mm are now converted to DVD and are available for use at the JFIC Library AV Corner.
The films record the rapidly disappearing sights and customs of the past Japan. Some are quite valuable documentary resources to introduce the process of making Japanese traditional crafts: Nishijin textile, Lantan, Japanese fan, Washi (Japanese paper), etc. Most of the films are silent and in black/white, partially with English subtitles.
JFIC Library holds 39 titles of the KBS Films. We hope you will enjoy learning Japanese culture in early Showa period through the films.
