This fully illustrated book introduces architecture and art media of Japan over 100 years. It is composed of the Introduction; the Catalogue of classical Japanese buildings, new generation of architecture forms, and art media; and personal accounts of five renowned Japanese architects on their life and work. Tracing traditional buildings, classical gardens and the historic townscapes to a range of recent building programs, the book leads the keys to understanding the current Japanese architecture and art scenes.

The author, known as the leading interpreter in Japan, examines the role and the making of interpreters in postwar Japan. She aims to highlight this invisible presence and make them visible by collecting the living memories of five diplomatic interpreters through interviews. The experiences of these pioneering simultaneous interpreters are analyzed as case studies, leading to the discussion of (in)visibility of interpreters and their perception of language, culture and communication. The book is based on the author’s PhD thesis.

56 works of Japanese classical animated films produced between 1928 through 1950 are included in these four discs. This is a very useful collection to understand the scene of classical Japanese animation before and after the WWII.
