"Japanese in Anime & Manga" Korean Version Launched!
The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai launched the Korean version of "Japanese in Anime & Manga" website.
http://anime-manga.jp/korean/

Since the launch of the English version in February 2010 and
Spanish version in October 2010, over 2.2 million users around the world have already using this website from 181 countries and regions. Japanese anime and manga have been very popular in Korea, the country with the largest population of Japanese learners in the world. Chinese version of this website is scheduled to be launched in this March.

The Japan Foundation Kyoto Office and Osaka International House Foundation co-organize film screenings with English subtitles at the International House, Osaka (i-House) on February 18 and March 18. Admission fee is 500 yen per screening.

(2) Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama (2/16-2/20 Yokohama)

On its 15th occasion, TPAM (Tokyo Performing Arts Market) changes its name to Performing Arts Meeting and its venue to Yokohama, the first city that declared the "Creative City" policy in Japan.
The Japan Foundation is a member of Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama Executive Committee.

In addition to showcase performances by artists from Japan
and abroad, there will be many programs including a seminar,
presentations, and booth presentation.

(3) Lecture "Japan and Modernity: A Romanian Point of View"
(2/24 Tokyo)

The Japan Foundation and the Embassy of Romania in Japan co-organize a lecture by Mr. Horia-Roman Patapievici, President of Romanian Cultural Institute, on his first visit to Japan. He will talk about Japan from the perspective of the modernism in literature and the issue of tradition versus modernity.

(4) Registration Started for New Japanese Culture Course
(2/7-3/10 Seoul)

The Japan Foundation, Seoul starts new course "Japanese Culture 1" in April 2011. In this course, participants will learn Japanese culture and language by using "Karuta", Japanese traditional card game, in five lessons.

Course period: Every Friday between April 1 and May 6,
except for April 29
Registration period: February 7 to March 10

(5) Shakuhachi Concert by Jumei Tokumaru (2/16 New Delhi)

The Japan Foundation, New Delhi hosts a shakuhachi (bamboo flute) concert by Jumei Tokumaru and his ensemble of young performers of traditional Japanese musical instruments.

(6) Film Screening of "A Dream for Kabul" and Discussion (2/17 Jakarta)

The Japan Foundation, Jakarta and Embassy of Canada in Indonesia co-organize a screening of "A Dream for Kabul". This Canadian documentary film is about a Japanese father whose son died in the attacks on the World Trade Center decides to help the people of Afghanistan in the hope of ending the cycle of violence.
After the screening, there will be a discussion about the film and its theme.

(7) Japanese Language Speech Contest for SLTA Students 2011
(2/19 Jakarta)

The Japan Foundation, Jakarta holds the national speech contest for high school students who are studying Japanese.

Participants: 13 winners of local speech contest in 8 regions 4 winners of the national contest will also be nominated for Visiting

(8) Shingo Tokihiro Costume Exhibition (2/20-3/13 Kuala Lumpur)

The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur and KLPAC (Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre) co-organize a theatre costume exhibition by renowned Japanese costume designer, Shingo Tokihiro. He will also conduct two costume making and styling workshops with just a sheet of cloth and a pair of scissors.

As part of "The New Era: Japan-Korea Collaboration for the Future" project, the Japan Foundation and National Gugak Center in Korea co-organize Korea-Japan Traditional Song and Dance Festival in Seoul and Busan. Young performers of traditional dance and songs from both countries will be on the stage together.

(12) Shigeyama Kyogen Theatre Company of Kyoto Comes to Brazil
(2/23-2/27 Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Sao Paulo)

The Japan Foundation, Sao Paulo, Consulate General of Japan in Rio de Janeiro and Consulate General of Japan in Curitiba co-host Kyogen performance tour in Brazil by Shigeyama Kyogen Theatre Company of Kyoto, their first appearance in this country. Performed in Japanese, but with explanations in Portuguese, the show is recommended for people over 12 years.

The Japan Cultural Institute in Paris (Maison de la culture du Japon a Paris) hosts a lecture by Pierre Troisgros, a distinguished chef.
Since he opened the first restaurant in Japan to serve high-quality
French cuisine in 1966, he also trained many Japanese students to be chefs of French cuisine in Japan.

(16) Seminar "Historical Spain-Japan Relations in the Colonial Context
of the Far East" (2/19 Madrid)

The Japan Foundation, Madrid hosts a seminar entitled "Historical
Spain-Japan Relations in the Colonial Context of the Far East" at the Ateneo de Madrid on February 19.
Eight experts from Japan and Spain will give lectures on their fields of study and then gather together in panel discussions to address the historical relations between Spain and Japan, particularly from the perspective of the phenomenon of colonialism in the Far East. Also, they will review the current relations of cultural exchange between both countries.
