■■ Special Screening: Identity Issues in Singapore and Malaysia Seen Through Films ■■

Dear readers,

There are only a few days until the end of 2016. In Japan, a majority of Japanese companies and organizations, including the Japan Foundation Headquarters, have their last business day of the year on December 28. Then we have the Year-end and New Year's holidays.
On New Year's day, we eat "o-zoni," which is a soup containing mochi (rice cake). Its recipe varies depending on the regions. There are 47 prefectures in Japan, and it is no exaggeration to say that each prefecture has its own style. Tokyo style is soy sauce based clear soup with grilled rectangular mochi, while Kyoto style is white miso based soup with round mochi.
If you have a chance to be in Japan during the New Year's holiday period, it would be quite interesting to taste o-zoni in a few different areas.
We wish you all a very happy new year!!
