Mr. Martin Barrow, VISIT JAPAN Ambassador appointed by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, (left) paid a courtesy call on Hiroyasu Ando, President of the Japan Foundation, and exchanged practical ideas on how Japan’s cultural appeal should be presented to the world, with consideration of the “Japan Brand” and “Cool Japan” strategies. Mr. Barrow has developed a deep affection for Japan since he first came to live the country as an executive of Jardine Matheson Limited. in 1975. After his retirement, he had devoted himself to promoting Japan-UK exchange as Vice-Chairman of the Japan Society in the United Kingdom.

Ambassador Masud mentioned that an Embassy staff, who has formerly participated in the Japan Foundation’s “Japanese-Language Program for Foreign-Service Officers & Public Officials ”, shows an excellent work performance with the fruitful knowledge and experience obtained from its training. After this meeting at the headquarters in Tokyo, he also visited the Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai (in Osaka Prefecture) to see the above-mentioned program of this academic year.

(left) paid a courtesy call on Hiroyasu Ando, President of the Japan Foundation, and shared their thoughts on Japan-Indonesia bilateral exchange in which cultural exchange plays an essential role to further develop the ties between these nationals at individual level, that they think is very important in addition to that diplomatic relations at government level. As for that, Minister Nuh and Ando consented to promote the cultural exchange through the overseas office in Indonesia, the Japan Foundation, Jakarta , as one of its platforms.

Through these cooperation, the CEEJA has been an important partner to promote cultural exchange in the Alsace region, France.

Mr. Florent Chavouet , a French i llustrator who is well-known as an author of “Tokyo on Foot (TOKYO SANPO)” , paid a visit to Tomoyuki Sakurai, Executive Vice President of the Japan Foundation, and reported his exchange experience with local people in the devastated area of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Mr. Chavouet took charge of illustration for a documentary kamishibai[picture-story show] titled “Kesennuma, Umi no Takaramono [Wealth of the Ocean in Kesennuma]”, depicting the recovery efforts having made by sea-squirts farmers in the Karakuwa Peninsula, Kesennuma city, Miyagi Prefecture, one of the disaster-stricken areas of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and stayed in Karakuwa Peninsula this summer for a preparatory on-site research to complete the kamishibai with the Japanese playwright. In addition, he participated in a charity school lunch program conducted by the renowned chefs including Mr. Kiyomi Mikuni, and gave the kamishibai performance (Oct. 22, 2012 at Karakuwa Elementary School , Kesennuma city) for elementary school students .

Ms. Li Miao, Tokyo Bureau Chief, Phoenix Satellite Television Co. Ltd. (right) interviewed Hiroyasu Ando, President of the Japan Foundation, upon cultural exchanges between Japan and China. At the interview, Ando introduced the programs that the Japan Foundation offers for promoting Japan-China cultural exchanges, including “Heart-to-Heart: Long-Term Exchange Program for Chinese High School Students”. In the photograph above, Ms. Li and Ando are holding a flag with handwritten messages of 32 Chinese high school students who finished the “Heart-to-Heart” 11-month exchange program and left Japan in this summer. This interview was broadcast in the morning news program via their own channel on Friday, October 19.

In 2012, Israel and Japan celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations. To commemorate the special year, many kinds of events are planned to be held all around Japan and in Israel.

The Japan Foundation invited executives from China Central Television under the Special Invitation Program for Chinese Researchers and Intellectuals.
