The
Japan Foundation will hold a photo exhibition titled "WONDERBUS
Japan in Australia" at its headquarters in Akasaka, Tokyo. Approximately
50 pictures taken by photographer Kenichi Kasho will be on display in
the JFIC Lounge.
WONDERBUS Japan was a cultural project aiming to bring “Japan”to parts of Australia. A bus load of Japanese volunteer staff toured cities and towns in regional Australia, presenting a showcase of Japanese art and culture, such as karate, calligraphy, tea ceremony, Japanese drums and Yosakoi dance. The WONDERBUS crew interacted with students, teachers and parents, offering them a unique opportunity to experience "Japan" in their local communities.
In March 2005, WONDERBUS Japan transformed Young, Wodonga, Shepparton, Ballarat, Warrnambool and Mount Gambier into a buzzing hub of Japanese cultural activities. Since it was so enthusiastically received, it returned in May 2006, this time to tour Cairns, Mossman, Townsville, Charters Towers, Hughenden, and Mount Isa. For more, see: Wonderbus Japan 2006.
