Timor-Leste no Japaun "Tinan Amizade no Dame"
(Year of Peace to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Timor-Leste)
Japan has been supporting Timor-Leste’s endeavor to build a sovereign nation proactively through grant aid, technical cooperation, dispatch of Self-Defense Forces and civilian police, and election observation mission since the first Timor-Leste Development Partners Meeting in 1999 (held in Tokyo). The year 2012 marks the 10th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Timor-Leste since May 20, 2002, the independence day of Timor-Leste. Therefore, Japan and Timor-Leste have designated the year 2012 “Timor-Leste no Japaun ‘Tinan Amizade no Dame’” (Year of Peace to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Timor-Leste), and are planning to conduct associated programs.
