Website "Listen Together: The Songs of Japan" Launched to Promote Interests in Japanese-language and Culture through Japanese Music

June 1, 2016

The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai is engaged in development of Japanese Language e-learning materials designed for all Japanese-language learners. As many of them start learning the language through Japanese music, we have launched a new website "Listen Together: The Songs of Japan", which supports Japanese-language learning with music, on June 1, 2016.

The website "Listen Together: The Songs of Japan" has been developed for from those who have never studied the language to those who already achieved an advanced level, as well as those interested in Japanese music. The website contains a total of 69 songs, consists of 47 children's/traditional songs and 22 indie songs. Users are able to search for songs by various ways: genre, theme, Japanese language difficulty level, title, and view ranking. Lyrics can be displayed in hiragana and katakana, or romaji, or all of them on the pages where music videos are shown, so that even people who find written Japanese difficult can enjoy Japanese songs. These lyrics are downloadable in PDF format.
The website can be displayed on PCs, tablets, and smartphones and is suitable for use in language classes as a study tool.

The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai sincerely hopes that the website "Listen Together: The Songs of Japan" will develop people’s interactions and help increase a number of people who become interested in the language and culture of Japan.
