Japanese Film Screenings Overseas in November, 2005

From November of 2005, The Japan Foundation has been pleased to present and co-sponsor on-going screenings of Japanese films at the following exhibitions and international film festivals:

Regularly-presented Japanese film shows

**Japanese Film Special**
Date:	11/4-12/9.
Venue:	Bangkok, Thailand.
Presented by:	The Japan Foundation, Bangkok.
Films Screened:	10 films such as “Mibu Gishiden” (when the last sword is drawn) by Yojiro Takita, “Utsukushi Natsu, Kirishima” (a boy’s summer in 1945) by Kazuo Kuroki.

**Yasujiro Ozu Special**
Date:	11/19-1/19, 2006
Venue:	Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Calcutta.
Presented by:	The Japan Foundation, New Delhi.
Films Screened:	4 films such as “Ukikusa” (floating weeds).

**9th Japanese Film Festival Tour (Australia)**
Date:	10/6-12/2.
Venue:	Perth, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney, Australia.
Presented by:	The Japan Foundation, Sydney, the Japanese Embassy in Australia, the Japanese Consulate General in Perth, the Japanese Consulate General in Sydney, and the Japanese Consulate General in Melbourne.
Films Screened:	6 films including "Ranpo Jigoku" by Suguru Takeuchi, " HINOKIO" by Takahiko Akiyama.

**Canada Tour of Japanese Films**
Date:	9/10-11/20.
Venue:	Montreal, Halifax, Hamilton, Toronto, Ottawa, Edmond, Calgary, Vancouver, and Kamloops, Canada.
Presented by:	The Japanese Embassy in Canada.
Films Screened:	4 films including "Water Boys," "Zatoichi."

**Tomu Uchida Film Special**
Date:	9/12, 2005-1/30, 2006.
Venue:	Cologne, Germany.
Presented by:	The Japan Cultural Institute in Cologne (The Japan Foundation).
Films Screened:	16 films such as "Kiga Kaikyo (straits of starvation)," " Tsuchi (earth)," "Chiyari Fuji (blood spear at Mount Fuji)."

**Japanese Film Festival**
Date:	11/4-11/20.
Venue:	Sofia, Bulgaria.
Presented by:	The Japan Embassy in Bulgaria.
Films Screened:	Filmed Screened: 5 films including "Warabi no ko” by Hideo Onchi, "Postman Blues" by SABU, “Fukuro” (owl) by Kaneto Shindo, and "Blue" by Hiroshi Ando.

**39th Japanese Film Festival**
Date:	11/17-12/14.
Venue:	Moscow, and Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Presented by:	The Japanese Embassy in Russia.
Films Screened:	5 films including “Ikitai” (I want to live) by Kaneto Shindo, “Kinyu Hametsu Nippon: Togenkyo no Hitobito” by Takashi Miike.

**Uganda Film Festival**
Date:	11/20-11/26.
Venue:	Kampala, Uganda.
Presented by:	The Japanese Embassy in Uganda.
Films Screened:	4 films such as “Kids’ Return” by Takeshi Kitano.

**Yasuzo Masumura Special**
Date:	11/21-11/30.
Venue:	Seoul, Korea.
Presented by:	Cinematheque, Seoul.
Films Screened:	9 films such as “Kuro no Shisosha” (black test car), “Kyojin to Gangu” (giants and toys).

**Mikio Naruse Special**
Date:	9/3, 2005 –5/8, 2006.
Venue:	In U.S.A--Madison, Cambridge, Boston, Santa Fe, New York, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Washington D.C, Chicago, Columbus, Rochester and Cleveland. In Canada--Toronto, Vancouver.
Presented by:	Cinematique Ontario and others.
Films Screened:	34 films including "Inazuma" (thunder bolt), "Ani Imoto" (brother and sister) and "Onna ga Kaidan wo Noboru Toki" (when a woman ascends the stairs).

**Japanese Classic Film Special**
Date:	10/1-12/31.
Venue:	New York, U.S.A.
Presented by:	Japan Society.
Films Screened:	5 films including "Otoko no Kao wa Rirekisho" (a man's face reveals his history) by Tai Kato, "Tokyo Nagaremono" (Tokyo drifter) by Seijun Suzuki.

**Taisho Chic**
Date:	11/1-11/30.
Venue:	Berkeley, California (U.S.A).
Presented by:	Pacific Film Archive.
Films Screened:	"Takino Shiraito” (the water magician) by Kenji Mizoguchi, “Minato no Nihon Musume” (the Japanese girl in the harbor) by Hiroshi Shimizu, “Kageroza” by Seijun Suzuki and more.

**Yasuzo Masumura Special**

Films Screened:	8 films such as "Hyoheki" (ice wall), "Moju" (blind beast) directed by Yasuzo Masumura.
