Visions of the Body 2005

The Japan Foundation organized the exhibition “Visions of the Body 2005” with the Kyoto Costume Institute (KCI), the Seoul Museum of Art, and the Korea Foundation at the Seoul Museum of Art from 15 June to 31 July 2005.
“Visions of the Body 2005” provides a rereading of post– twentieth- century fashion from the viewpoint of the body and examines the overall state of the relationship between fashion and body, exhibiting together experimental works by designers and critical works by contemporary artists. It has been reconstructed, from an earlier exhibition, also called “Visions of the Body: Fashion or Invisible Corset” that was jointly organized by the National Museum of Modern Art (Kyoto) and KCI in 1999.
The works have been made once again in the same concept but
as a reflection
of the new movements that have occurred in the past 5 years, and also
includes the works of contemporary Korean artists.
The perspective will
be drawn with the exhibits, which consist of the collection of KCI and
contemporary art works in the city of Seoul, attracting attention in
the contemporary art scene.
This exhibition is taking place during “Japan– Korea Friendship Year 2005,” and we hope that it will help to stimulate further cultural exchange with the Republic of Korea in the future.
