The Japan Foundation will organize a taiko (drum) concert tour by Tokyo Dagekidan, an all-male drumming group, and Hono-o-Daiko, an all-female drumming troupe based in Ishikawa Prefecture. They will perform in Thai, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam.
The Bangkok concert is designated as a commemorative event for the 120th anniversary of Japan-Thailand diplomatic relations. The Chen Mai concert is part of the Japan Day program of the ROYAL FLORA RATCHAPHRUEK 2006 (International Horticultural Exposition for His Majesty the King). The Concert in Malaysia is designated as the Opening Event for the fiftieth anniversary of the Japan-Malaysia diplomatic relations.
Tokyo Dagekidan
All-male drum group of five drummers and one flutist, established in 1995. Has performed at the closing ceremony of 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.
Hono-o-Diako
Drum group of three female percussionists established in 1986. Has conducted many concert tours overseas.
