The 4th Asian Museum Curator’s Conference
The 4th Asian Museum Curator’s Conference will be held in Japan to coincide with the Yokohama Triennale to open this fall. The previous conferences have been held in Japan/Osaka (1st conference in March 2006), Seoul (2nd conference in March 2007), and in Manila (3rd conference in March 2008).

The main objectives of the upcoming conference are as follows:
- 1) To enhance the understanding on the art scene and art policies in Japan
- 2) To exchange information and select/discuss issues commonly shared by museums in Asia
- 3) To enhance understanding on the discourses related to Asian art
- 4) To understand the different approaches/methods/attitudes of curatorial practices
Program Structure
The conference will start with a series of meetings, combined with site visits, to discuss specific issues:
- Fukuoka Asian Art Museum to discuss policy with a Asian focus
- Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art to discuss current issues in Japanese regional museums
- The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto to view and discuss topics related to “Emotional Drawing” exhibition
- Yokohama Triennale to observe international art exhibitions and other discuss biennales and triennales in Asia in relation to the role of museums
At the final stage, the participants will attend the international symposium organized by the Japan Foundation, “Count 10 before You Say Asia - Asian Art after Postmodernism,” to study and enhance understanding on the discourses and the state of Asian art in the last two decades.
