The Japan Foundation presented “WA: The Spirit of Harmony and Japanese Design Today” exhibition to introduce excellent Japanese product designs to the world. This exhibition traveled through Paris, Budapest, Essen, Warsaw, Saint-Etienne and Seoul from October 2008 to March 2011.

Now the exhibition returns to Japan from June 24 to July 30, 2011, hosted by Musashino Art University Museum & Library and co-hosted by the Japan Foundation.

For this exhibition, about 160 items from a variety of fields of contemporary Japanese product designs were selected by four leading figures in Japanese designs, namely Hiroshi Kashiwagi, prof. at Musashino Art University; Masafumi Fukagawa, curator at the Kawasaki City Museum; Shu Hagiwara, design director; and Noriko Kawakami, journalist.

The exhibition will take place in three exhibition rooms of redesigned Musashino Art University Museum that will open in June 2011. The exhibition space will be designed by TONERICO:INC., a unit of designers covering from interior to product designs. Lightening designer Yuko Yamashita and graphic designers will be Kei Matsushita and Tomoko Tanabe will take part in designing the exhibition in Japan, as they did in the exhibition in Paris. We hope that Japanese visitors will share the world of Japanese product designs that has been appreciated by visitors across the world.
