The Japan Foundation hosts “TPAM in Yokohama 2012” in cooperation with Kanagawa Arts Foundation, Yokohama Arts Foundation and Japan Center, Pacific Basin Arts Communication.
TPAM has been held in Tokyo as a market related to performing arts such as theater, dance and music since 1995. In the year 2010 which marked the 15th anniversary, the event was relaunched to focus more on “encounter” and “networking”, altering the venue from Tokyo to the international city of Yokohama and the name from “market” to “meeting”.
This year, various programs to link performing arts from different perspectives will take place at the main venues; Yokohama Creativecity Center (YCC), BankART Studio NYK, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Number 1 and Kanagawa Arts Theatre in collaboration with numerous facilities and organizations, including showcase programs of performing arts introduced from Japan to overseas by directors selected by TPAM, publicly offered presentation programs, TPAM showcase, symposium or meeting programs, theatrical and dance performances played by French, Korean and Quebec troupes for the first time in Japan.
Approximately 1,000 participants from Japan and 200 participants from overseas joined the TPAM last time, which resulted in the total number of visitors exceeded 23,000 people. “Performing Arts AIR Meeting@TPAM” aimed at building a network related to Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program will be held as well, so participants of different ages and backgrounds inside and outside Japan are expected to join the event this year.
