There are times when the memory of a particular scene remains vivid after seeing a film that is separate from the impression made by the story, the theme, or the actors. A series of film screenings called "Art on Film" will be presented at the New York Japan Society from February 7 to March 28, 1997. It will delve into the depiction of a broad variety of arts and crafts including painting, sculpture, tea ceremony, and architecture. It provides an opportunity to gain knowledge not only of the arts of the theme, but also of such superior technical arts of Japanese cinema as photography, and artistic and color design. Lectures by Director Rodo Seji and Producer Akimoto who made "The Legend of Icons" are also on the agenda. The Japan Foundation will cooperate in this series of screenings by providing films from its library.
