The Japan Foundation is conducting events that introduce various aspects of Japanese culture to American cities, especially to Washington D.C. and Chicago, where President and Mrs. Obama have strong connections. These events will focus on Japanese aesthetic values and way of life, which have contributed to the harmony between man and nature. They consist of Kyogen, a style of comic drama established in the Muromachi period in the 14th and 15th centuries; photographs of the Katsura Detached Palace of the 17th century where aristocrats enjoyed viewing the moon; lectures on fashion that showcases the creativity of designers who incorporate the tradition of kimono and on train travel that is environmentally benign due to the utilization of high technologies; and film screenings with the theme of people living with nature.
