Performing Arts Japan (PAJ) for North America and Europe
New guidelines for 2012-2013 have been announced

Performing Arts Japan (PAJ) is a grant program designed to provide assistance for arts and cultural organizations based in North America (U.S. and Canada) and Europe that organize Japan-related performing arts projects.

 

1. Program Objectives

1) To promote the opportunity for performing arts organizations in North America and Europe to widely introduce Japanese performing arts, utilizing the network within the region.

2) To provide geographically diverse audiences with greater exposure to Japanese performing arts.

3) To foster an understanding of Japanese performing arts by providing community outreach programs for the general public and local artists.

4) To support collaborative projects between Japanese performing artists and artists in North America and Europe.

 

2. Grant Categories
The PAJ program subsidizes part of the expense for Japan-related performing arts projects:

1) Touring Grant assists the presentation of Japanese performing arts at multiple locations in North America/Europe with emphasis on locations outside major metropolitan areas where there is little exposure to Japanese performing arts.

2) Collaboration Grant assists the collaboration project of Japanese and North American/ European artists for the creation of a new work that has the potential to develop into a touring project.

 

3. Eligibility
PAJ North America:
U.S.-based or Canada-based nonprofit organizations (IRS501(c)3 status for U.S. and CRA Charitable Status for Canada)

 

PAJ Europe:
Performing arts-related organizations such as festivals, theatres or arts promotion companies that are based in the following countries:
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the U.K, Vatican City

 

4. Funding Periods

PAJ North America: Projects that take place between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013
PAJ Europe: Projects that take place between April 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013

A project that receives a grant from the Japan Foundation’s other programs, such as the Grant Program for Overseas Performances and Local Grant programs accepted by the Japan Foundation’s overseas office cannot be funded through PAJ at the same time.

 

5. Application Deadline

PAJ North America: November 1 (Tue), 2011
PAJ Europe: November 4 (Fri), 2011
