Phot of Open Symposium  Initiated in 1996 as a joint undertaking of the International House of Japan and the Japan Foundation Asia Center, this program is designed to promote mutual understanding and cooperation and to create a close personal network among intellectual leaders from the Asian region through extending fellowships in the form of invitations to visit Japan for up to 3 months to 5 or 6 selected specialists. During their visit, the fellows participate in two months of joint research consisting of seminars and workshops on the comprehensive theme of "Development and Culture" during September and October, while staying at the International House of Japan. This open symposium is held for the purpose of providing an opportunity for the fellows to report on and discuss the results of their two-month period of joint research.
