Caring for an Ageing Society: A Study of the Compatibility of Philippine and Japanese Policies

  • Because of the ageing population of Japan, there is a big demand for foreign care-givers in that country. The Philippines has the potential of becoming the largest supplier of care-givers to Japan. The comparative study, which will be jointly conducted by scholars from the Yuchengco Center of De La Salle University, the Kobe University and the Osaka University of Foreign Studies, will look into the social, political and legal dimensions of the issue. The survey method and documentary analysis of laws and policies will be employed.

Third International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS3)

  • The first two conventions for Asia scholars were held in the Netherlands (1998) and Germany (2001). This is the first time the convention will be held in Asia. About 800-1000 participants are expected at ICAS3. Panels, individual papers, posters and special meetings on any Asia-related field of research are invited for the convention. All papers will be adjudicated by the Programme Committee. ICAS3 expects to attract about 1,000 scholars with approximately 210 sessions over 4 days. The Internatinoal Advisory Committee consists of 15 members. Professor T. Hamashita, Kyoto University, has kindly agreed to serve in the ICAS3 IAC. ICAS3 is endorsed by the International Institute of Asian Studies, Association for Asian Studies and the Asian Studies Association of Australia.
