International Conference on Empowering Women
To mark the occasion of Spain’s Presidency of the European Union, this seminar emphasizes the opportunity for a dialogue between Europe and Japan in the area of women empowerment. Political, legal, economic, and cultural aspects will be considered.
Program
10:00-11:15
This session reflects on specific policies and reforms implemented in
Europe and Japan to empower women. Panellists will address the incentives
to make such reforms, their content and their effectiveness.
Moderator: Carmen Pérez-Fragero, Secretary General, Instituto Cervantes.
Panellists: Soledad Murillo de la Vega, Sociology Professor at Universidad de
Salamanca and member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination
against Women, Ina Brouwer, President of the Dutch Childcare sector and former
Director of Emancipation Policy and MP in the Netherlands, German lawyer Regina
Frey, founder of Genderbuero, and Takashi Kashima, Professor of Jissen Women’s
University and member of Japan’s Council for Gender Equality.
11:45-13:00
This session, focusing on economy and the workplace, will cover areas such as creating opportunities for women in the workforce, competitive advantages for companies and society, as well as demographic trends such as aging populations and declining birth rates.

This session brings together international experts on child-care, education and community development to discuss innovative ideas to empower society by maximizing collaboration by both men and women to achieve social progress and personal fulfilment.
Moderator: Kumi Fujisawa, Vice-President of Think Tank SophiaBank.
Panellists: Tetsuya Ando, President of NPO Fathering Japan, Jolanda
Holwerda,
founding editor of Dutch platform for working mothers Lof Magazine,
and Norwigean CEO Gry Wigre, from Onmii.
Roundtable discussion
15:45-17:00
All panellists will be invited to participate in the roundtable, where
conclusions will be drawn.
