Q1: How many people learn Japanese in the world?
A:According to 2006 Survey of Overseas Organizations Involved in Japanese-Language Education by the Japan Foundation, there are about 2.98 million Japanese-language learners. In this Survey, the number of institutions and teachers are also investigated and data in the past surveys are posted.
Q2: How do I get information on Japanese-language education in a certain country /area?
A:Japanese-Language Education Information by Countries provides information on Japanese-language education in about 150 countries and districts in the world, major syllubus/guidelines related to Japanese-language education in each country, and teachers associations and academic conferences. For more information, please use Search for Reference which includes the title of basic documents on Japanese-language education in each country/district. Address and contact of individual educational institution offering Japanese-language course in each country are searched in Directory of Overseas Japanese-Language Educational Institutions.
Q3: I would like to teach Japanese abroad. Does the Japan Foundation dispatch Japanese teachers?
A:The Japan Foundation dispatches Japanese-language education experts and assistant teachers to ministry of educaiton in each countryoverseas offices of the Japan Foundation, the Japan Centers and the intermediate/higher education facilities. Please access here for recruitment.
Q4: How can I participate in domestic training programs by the Japan Foundation?
A:The Japan Foundation provides diverse training programs related to Japanese- language education at the Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa and the Japanese- Language Institute, Kansai. For the programs inviting participants, please see the Program Guidelines. Please note that qualification at home/overseas and individual/organization, deadline and how many times you can apply are different in each program.

A:The Japan Foundation supports Japanese-language educations overseas through diverse programs and by giving educational materials. For details of each program, please see the Program Guidelines. Please note that qualification at home/overseas and individual/organization, deadline and how many times you can apply are different in each program.
Q6: How do I get a publication published by the Japan Foundation?
A:Please access Publications and Goods for major publications on Japanese- language education published by the Japan Foundation. Educational materials pulishers, prices and ISBNs are listed in List of Japanese-Language Teaching Materials Developed by the Japan Foundation. Some materials are sold at JFIC shop.
Q7: What is Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)? How can I take it?
A:JLPT is a test to evaluate and certify the language proficiency of primarily non-native speakers of Japanese since 1984. The test has four different levels:level 1 for learners after studying Japanese for around 900 hours; level 2 for 600 hours; level 3 for 300 hours; and level 4 for 150 hours. Each test is made up of three sections: writing-vocabulary; listening; reading-grammar. Please access the JLPT Communication Square for more information on application,testing agency and test site.
Q8: I've lost a certificate of JLPT. Can it be reissued?
A:Certificate will be reissued with conditions to people who took the test in a non-Japanese country. For details, please see FAQ site in the JLPT Communication Square.
