Strengthening Cultural Exchange in Asia

The Japan Foundation Asia Center aims to foster awareness of empathy and coexistence as neighbors who live together among the residents of Asia through exchange and collaboration. To that end, it implements and supports projects in diverse fields, such as art and culture, sports, Japanese-language education and academic exchange.

1 "NIHONGO Partners" Program

This program dispatches "NIHONGO Partners" to secondary educational institutions mainly in 10 ASEAN countries in order to support the local Japanese language teachers and students. The "NIHONGO Partners" will support not only the educational activities of the local Japanese teachers but also aim to spread the charms of the Japanese language and cultures through their learning support and cultural activities inside and outside the classroom.

2 Grant Program for Enhancing People-to-People Exchange

This program aims to support Japanese organizations by providing grants to partially cover expenses of implementing exchange projects at grassroots or regional levels, aiming to expand the base for exchange and to promote understanding and friendship among the people of Asia.

3 Grant Program for Promotion of Cultural Collaboration

This program provides grants to partially cover expenses incurred by specialists/specialist organizations in the fields of arts and culture, sports, or intellectual exchange in Asia which aims to conduct collaborative projects such as co-productions, joint researches, and projects to disseminate the results of these collaborative projects. The goal of the grant is to foster an awareness of empathy and coexistence among the people of Asia, including Japan, through collaboration.

4 The Asia Center Fellowship Program

This program provides fellowship in order to enhance joint or cooperative projects in a wide variety of fields including arts and culture, sports, academic studies, and intellectual exchange in the Asian regions. The fellowships will offer to individuals who are planning to carry out research activities and forming networks/platforms in their field(s) of expertise outside their home countries.
