The Japan Foundation Film Series Part 3

Flashback / Flashforward: Staging the Past

A Special Three-Day Film Showing with English Subtitles

The Japan Foundation has been showing Japanese films with subtitles overseas as part of its efforts to introduce Japanese culture to the world. Now the Japan Foundation is also offering these English subtitled prints to foreign residents of Japan so they can experience the riches of Japanese cinema.
The first such effort resulted in "The Masters of Japanese Cinema" held in June 2004, which was followed up by "When Masters were Young-1960's" in March 2005.

Our third venture is jointly presented with Kinema Club, a group of film scholars, artists and fans from all over the world. We will explore various ways of re-presenting "the past" through films.

<Kinema Club>
Kinema Club is an informal community of scholars, artists, and fans interested in Japanese moving image media.
