Arabic-Language Books for Children in Samawah, Iraq

The Japan Foundation will give 24,000 books to 348 elementary schools and child-care centers in southern Iraq.

The gifts will include Arabic versions of the children’s books “Hajimete no Yamanobori” (My First Mountain) by Empress Michiko and “Hyozan Ruri no Daikokai” (Lulie the Iceberg) written by Princess Takamado, as well as several children’s books selected from the International Board on Books for Young People Honor List.

The Japan Foundation hopes these books will offer comfort to Iraqi children living in difficult conditions, as well as an opportunity for them to learn about Japanese culture.
