Original JF T-shirts by Design Students

* A part of the proceeds of this product will be used for the cultural exchange programs conducted by the Japan Foundation.

The Japan Foundation has been producing its original goods that have the quality of merchantability as part of its public relations.

This year, the Japan Foundation held a design competition for the JF original T-shirt in cooperation with Nihon Kogakuin College and Nippon Designer Gakuin in order to offer an opportunity to design students to demonstrate their abilities. The JF original T-shirt will be sold at museum shops throughout the country.

Under the theme of "My favorite country: its collaboration and bond with Japan," students of two schools, including students from overseas, presented their designs, and six exciting entries were chosen to be the JF original T-shirts.

Enjoy the T-shirts designed by students who will be masters in the future.

By placing a surf board on one of “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” by Hokusai Katsushika, my design will entertain people both at home and abroad. Japanese people will think it as an interesting attempt, whereas people abroad will be amazed by this unique collaboration.

“PM 8:00”

Asami Sato

Graphic Design Course, Nihon Kogakuin College

Country of Choice: Italia

My design is a dinner table with the motif of rice, the staple food of Japan, and pasta, the staple of Italy. I captured the matured atmosphere of eight o’clock at night on T-shirt.

“Smile and Handshake”

Haruka Sugiura

Visual Design Course, Nippon Designer Gakuin

Country of Choice: Thailand

A smiling elephant is a symbol of Thailand, or The Land of Smiles, which is known for its generous-hearted nationality. Oruzuru patterns in the background represent both Japanese culture (origami) and peace (crane). The theme of my design is the international exchange with warm feelings.

“I Want To Be with Thailand”

Shohei Takashita

Graphic Design Course, Nihon Kogakuin College

Country of Choice: Thailand

I designed a mixture of Japanese Kabuki and Thai mask.

“I Love Peace”

Shun Hakuta

Visual Design Course, Nippon Designer Gakuin

Country of Choice: Norway

I depicted the nature in Norway and Japan with flowers and animals. Both are peaceful countries, so I created a pop and glittering image with a lot of decorations. National flags are also incorporated in the design.

“French Wine and Okonomiyaki“

Teruaki Yamazaki

Graphic Design Course, Nihon Kogakuin College

Country of Choice: France

An unexpected but delicious combination of French wine and Okonomiyaki is depicted as a blending of taste and smell.
