| 1. Training Program for Japanese-Language Teachers |
| The Institute invites Japanese-language teachers from all
levels and types of institutions to Japan for teacher training in the Japanese
language. The training programs consist of improving Japanese-language proficiency,
attaining teaching methodology, and learning about Japanese culture and
society. More than 500 people from over 50 countries participate in the
programs, which range from three weeks to 9 months. Extracurricular activities,
include visiting local elementary schools, seeing Japanese traditional performing

| (1) Development and Production of Japanese-Language Educational Materials | |
| The Institute develops various types of educational materials and the copyright of some of the resources is licensed to publishers overseas, which helps to provide the materials at a reasonable price. The most recent materials are Kyokasho wo Tsukuro (in Japanese only)and Photo Panel Collection CD-ROM. The list of materials can be seen on our website. | |
| (2) Support for the Development and Publishing of Japanese-Language Educational Materials Overseas | |
| To encourage the development and publication
of Japanese-language educational materials overseas, the Institute offers
the following two programs. The Japanese-Language Education Fellowship Program
extends invitations to Japanese-language education specialists to carry
out research in developing educational materials. The Assistance Program
for Japanese-Language Teaching Materialsgrants subsidy for publishing educational
materials abroad. The list of materials produced through the programs is
available on the web site

| (1) The Institute implements the collection and processing of information related to Japanese-language studies and teaching overseas. The collected information is distributed through publications and on our web site. | |
| (2) Operation of a Library | |
| The Institute operates a library specializing in Japanese-language education. The collection includes audio-visual materials, books, and periodicals on Japanese-language education, linguistics and subjects related to the Japanese language. Please see About the Library for further information. | |
