| Description |
This is a video teaching
resource that presents the adventures in Japan of a young foreigner
named Yan in mini-drama form (13 episodes, each about 6 minutes long).
Each episode stands on its own, but the same characters reappear and
the episodes taken together also show a continuous plot development,
making the series enjoyable as a whole. One feature of this set is
that it exposes students to natural language use by actively incorporating
greetings and other conventional expressions, by having the characters
speak at a conversational speed that is normal for Japanese, and so
on. Another feature of the set is that it allows students to gain
an understanding of Japanese society today through video teaching
materials.
Supplementary teaching materials that accompany the tapes include
three texts (a teacher's manual in Japanese, another teacher's manual
in English, and scenarios in both Japanese and English) and two sound-track
tapes. This set is the source for skits used in "Let's Learn Japanese
Basic I," a television course presently being broadcast in English-speaking
countries. |
