The overseas edition of new video material

In April, The Japan Foundation Japanese–Language Institute, Urawa, released the second version of TV Commercials for Japanese-Language.

TV Commercials for Japanese Classrooms 2002

1. The Aim of the Material
The first version, TV Commercials for Japanese Classrooms, 2002, was released that year. In the 2005 version, 51 films (each 15 to 90 seconds) were selected from the winners of the 2002 ACC CM Festival. Each commercial comes with supporting teaching materials that contain an explanation of the commercial’s content.
The Japan Foundation hopes that teachers, through these actual TV commercials, will enhance their students’ interest in learning Japanese and deepen their understanding of contemporary Japanese culture and language.

2. The Contents of the Material
Video: VHS (47 minutes), The video system (NTSC, PAL, SECAM) is based on the condition of each country.

Teacher’s manual and panels of 51 works complied under the supervision of Professor Katsuhiko Sakuma of Sacred Heart University of Tokyo, with the cooperation of Ms. Shigemi Yamada, a lecturer at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

3. The Conditions of Use the Material
The new version is available overseas for rental from until March 2008 at local overseas Japan Foundation offices. (In countries where there is no local Japan Foundation office, the video is available at the Japanese Embassy(PDF/52KB)). It is prohibited from selling or copying this video material because of the restriction on the copyright.
In Japan, it may be perused for reference or research in the library of the JF japanese-Language Institute, Urawa.

4. The Distinction from Commercialism
The commercials are used not for the advertisement of the specific corporations or the commodities shown, but for Japanese-language teaching and understanding of the modern Japanese culture.
