Seventh Call for Papers
CONTRIBUTION GUIDELINES

The seventh volume of the Current Report on Japanese-Language Education Around the Globe is scheduled for publication by the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa, in March, 2003. It will consist of reports on the state of Japanese-language education by experts in various countries and practical reports relating to Japanese-language education in the form of contributed papers.
The Institute is now inviting contributions for the seventh Volume. Contributions should be useful in actual Japanese-language education situations (e.g., providing a reference for new teaching resources development or curriculum development). Contributions relating to new directions in Japanese-language education in various countries would be welcome.
Contributors must apply for a copy of our editorial standards and submit a clear description of their proposed contribution to Current Report on Japanese-Language Education Around the Globe.


1. Eligibility
Anyone is qualified to submit papers, regardless of sex, age, or affiliation.
Contributions from non-native speakers of Japanese are especially welcome. In order to include papers from as many different contributors as possible, those who wrote papers for the previous issue (including co-authors) may not contribute to the next issue.


2. Content
Unpublished reports in one of the fields described below:
(1) Reports relating to syllabus, teaching methods, teaching resources , testing methods, language policies, etc.
(2) Reports relating to the history of Japanese-language education in various countries. (Reports focusing on a particular period, field, or method from an original perspective are requested. General historical outlines or summaries are not appropriate).
(3) Investigative reports relating to Japanese-language education.
(4) Practical reports relating to Japanese-language education.

* Submissions with a specifically academic content that do not focus on the current state of Japanese-language education, or that are not practical reports relating to Japanese-language education, are outside the scope of this journal. Please submit contributions with such content to Japanese-Language education Around the Globe.

3. Number of Submissions to be Accepted: Approximately eight.

4. Language of Papers: Japanese or English

5. Length
(1) Papers in Japanese
Up to 20,000 characters. (Up to 15 pages of 43 characters per line and 33 lines per page on A4 paper. 50 pages on 400-character manuscripts)
(2) Papers in English
Up to 10,000 words. (Up to 25 pages on A4 paper, 35 lines per page,)
*(1), (2) include charts, footnotes, and bibliography.

6. Style Guidelines
The Institute's pamphlet, which gives detailed information on the editorial standards for contributions, is available. Contributors are strongly advised to read this brochure before making submission. The pamphlet is available at the address given below.

7. Submissions
When submitting a paper, please fill in the following information (1)-(4) on the form provided and be sure to include (5) below. The submission form will be sent to you together with the brochure.
(1) Author's name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and nationality.
(2) Name and address of any affiliated organization; author's position and title within that organization.
(3) Title of thesis in Japanese and English.
(4) A list of Keywords (no more than five) of the thesis in the language in which the paper is written.
(5)Length
(6) Abstracts: Up to 800 characters in Japanese. Up to 300 words in English.
* Regardless of the language used in the paper, the titles and abstracts in (3) and (6) above must be prepared in both Japanese and English.
* Submissions (including any attached materials) will not be returned.

8. Acceptance / Rejection of Submitted Papers
The editorial committee reserves the right to select or reject submitted papers. Contributors will be notified of the results before October 31, 2002.

9. Complimentary Copies and Fees
Three copies of the issue in which a paper is published and 20 copies of offprints will be presented to the author. Also, a small fee will be paid for publication of a paper in the journal.

10. Placement on the Web Page
The titles and abstracts of the accepted theses will also be published in the Japan Foundation's web page.

11. Deadline
Submissions must reach us no later than May 31, 2002.
