Part 1: Iraqi Film Retrospective 1948-2005
Part 2: New Arab Cinema 2003-2004
The Japan Foundation will hold the Arab Film Festival 2005 in Tokyo from April 15th to 24th at the Japan Foundation Forum in Akasaka, Tokyo.
In this festival, which consists of two parts, seventeen Arabic films will be shown. The films range from the classic to the contemporary. In Part Ⅰ, The Iraqi Film Retrospective 1948-2005, nine Iraqi films will be shown. Films range from the 1948 classic “Alia and Issam” to a contemporary film which was the first long film shot after the war, entitled “Underexposure” (2005). Part Ⅱ, New Arab Cinema 2003-2004, will feature eight contemporary Arabic films such as “The Kite,” which won the Silver Lion Prize at the Venice International Film Festival 2003, and “Route 181,” a four-hour documentary created in collaboration between an Israeli director and Palestinian director.
Symposiums and lectures by Arabic directors will also be held.
