Tatehata Akira

Director, The National Museum of Art, Osaka (Japan) Born in Kyoto in 1947. Graduated from School of Letters, Arts and Sciences, Waseda University. Curator of the National Museum of Art, Osaka and professor of Tama Art University before taking current position in 2005. Specializes in modern and contemporary art. Japanese commissioner for the Venice Biennale (1990, 93), artistic director of Yokohama Triennale 2001, and curator of many exhibitions of modern/ contemporary art in Asia. Also, a poet and has received Rekitei Prize of New Poet (1991) and Takami Jun Award (2005). Lives in Osaka.
