The Japan Foundation sends Miyako Kato, a dancer, and her company Miyako Kato Dance Space to five cities in Brazil to perform for Japan-Brazil Year of Exchange and the 100th Anniversary of Japanese Emigration to Brazil.
In addition to works by Japanese dancers such as SAND TOPOS by Akira Kasai, Kim Itoh and Miyako Kato and Miyako Kato? solo NIKKI, new work Laughing Soil, co-production with Brazilian dancers, will be performed. Laughing Soil is a long-term project starting from workshop at Akka, Morioka City in Japan in May 2007, first performance of Japanese version in Tokyo in November 2007, selecting dancers and workshop in Brazil, and finally to performance this time.
The Tour is expected to help Brazilian people? deeper understanding of Japan and to make contributions to the friendly relationship between Japan and Brazil.

Miyako KatoDancer heading up Miyako Kato Dance Space. Began dancing as a young child under the tutelage of Yoshiko Mori and Koh &Toshiko Fujii. Upon returning from studying abroad under a grant from the Agency of Cultural Affiars of Japan, she founded her company, Miyako Kato Dance Space. At Annex Sengawa Factory, moreover, she conducts creative dance workshops to develop five senses, and launched HOT HEAD WORKS, a multimedia collaborative arts festival. She is the general director of Contemporary Dance Tour in Brazil. She has been invited to perform at such festival as the American Dance Festival, Pepsico Summer Festival, Jacob? Pillow Dance Festival, and the Rencontres Internationales Choreographiques be Bagnolet. She has wonnumerous national awards including the Education Minister Award, the New Star Award (Modern Dance Society) the Saitama International Original Dance Grand Prix, the 1994 Award of Dance Critics Society of Japan, and the 1997 Nimura Dance Award. Kato currently serves as a Lecturer of Dance at the Nihon University.
