The Japan Foundation presents the Aichi Triennale 2010 Opening Symposium "The Mission of Biennials/Triennials: An East Asian Perspective"

Aichi Triennale 2010

The Japan Foundation is pleased to announce an international symposium on art Biennials/Triennials being held in East Asian countries. The symposium will be held on the occasion of the opening of the Aichi Triennale 2010, which will take place from August 21 to October 31, 2010.

From the 1990s and 2000s, several characteristic biennales/triennales have been launched in East Asian countries. The Japan Foundation also launched the Yokohama Triennale in 2001 and continued to hold it in 2005 and 2008 as one of the most important international art exhibitions in Japan.

Through organizing biennales/triennales, each organizer gains some experience on how to manage the organization and take over the problems of continuing the exhibition. In this international symposium, we would like not only to discuss the background history and mission of each biennale/triennale, but also to share both knowledge on how to continue biennales/triennales and various experiences from the viewpoint of organizers.
