Follow-Up Program: Extension Activity

Wish & Pray for Japan (Messages from Thailand)
~Human Network of the JENESYS Programme building a bridge to the affected area of the Great East Japan Earthquake~

Krung Thai Bank in Thailand which regularly conducts volunteer activities implemented a charity event for those who affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake (and Tsunami) on April 2. People in Bangkok who attended the event "Wish and Pray for Japan" created postcards with heartwarming messages and drawings.

Through a Thai participant of the JENESYS Follow-up Program, 400 message cards were handed over to the Japan Foundation. Finally, the messages were introduced at "Sendai World Festa 2011" on September 23, thanks to Sendai-Miyagi NPO Center and Sendai International Relations Association, through a Japanese participant of the JENESYS Follow-up Program.

The 18 past participants of the program from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, and Japan were re-united in Bangkok after being back from the study tour in Japan for as long as a year. Through field visits around Greater Bangkok as well as to Klang Municipality of Rayong District, they had a chance to exchange opinions on human security and sustainability, with emphasis on the aspects of manmade insecurity and natural disaster.
The Great East Japan Earthquake (3.11) as a shared attention of the East Asian region, the current situation in Northeastern Japan was shared by one of the Japanese alumni whose profession is devoted to community revitalization of the affected area. As the extensive activities for the future, the young leaders gathered in Bangkok discussed how they can collaborate for those affected, which dialogue has just embarked.
