Showings of the highly popular “Naruto the Movie”; Director Hirotsugu Kawasaki gives lectures in Algeria, Iran and Oman


The Japan Foundation will send the director of Pierrot Co., Ltd., Hirotsugu Kawasaki, and Pierrot Co. Ltd.'s head of production management, Kuniyuki Aoki, to Algeria (Algiers), Iran (Tehran) and Oman (Muscat) from 4 October 2012 to 17 October 2012. Mr. Aoki will give lectures on Japan's animation industry, and Director Kawasaki will conduct drawing demonstrations and also provide advice to workshop participants. In addition, the film "Naruto the Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel" (2005, directed by Hirotsugu Kawasaki), produced by Pierrot Co. Ltd. will also be shown.

Lecturer Profiles

Hirotsugu Kawasaki

Born in 1958. After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts, he commenced work in the "Oh! Production" animation studio. In 1991, he became a freelance animator, and has been involved in numerous animated films and television programs. Kawasaki created the original drawings of films such as "Lupin Ⅲ: Legend of the Gold Babylon" (1985, directed by Seijun Suzuki and Shigetsugu Yoshida), "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" (1986, directed by Hayao Miyazaki), "Ghost in the Shell" (1995, directed by Mamoru Oshii), and has directed animated films including "Naruto the Movie: Legend of the Stone of Gelel" (2005), and "Legend of the Millennium Dragon" (2011).

Kuniyuki Aoki

Aoki began working at Studio Pierrot (now Pierrot Co., Ltd.) in 1985 as a production assistant for animated graphics. In 1998 he was appointed head of the production management department at Pierrot Co. Ltd. He has been involved in the creation of various animated versions of manga, such as "Kinnikuman", "Captain Tsubasa (also known as Captain Majid in Arab countries)", and was the production assistant for animations such as "Anmitsu Hime", "Kimagure Orange Road" and "Magical Hat".
