Children’s Books of the World Exhibition

The Japan Foundation (JF) is pleased to announce the “Children’s Books of the World Exhibition” to be held at the Japan Foundation headquarters in Tokyo February 20 to 28 , 2024. The exhibition will display 218 children’s books from 55 countries and 49 languages, including Japanese picture books listed in the JF-published “Lifelong Favorites: Selections from the Bookshelves of Young Readers in Japan along with picture books from around the world collected by the Japanese Board on Books for Young People (JBBY) for its Traveling Exhibition.

For more than 50 years, the JF has supported the translation and publication of Japanese books through its “ Support Program for Translation and Publication.” In recent years, the JF has emphasized introduction of Japanese children’s books and, with the cooperation of JBBY, has added 59 titles to its Lifelong Favorites list.

This exhibition displays 3 Japanese picture books included in Lifelong Favorites and their translations into other languages for a total of 22 books, along with the 163 books from 53 countries and regions in 47 languages selected for the 2022 IBBY Honour List, as well as 14 books translated into Japanese from other languages and a total of 16 books by the 2022 recipients of the Hans Christian Anderson Award by writer Marie-Aude by writer Marie-Aude Murail (France) and illustrator Suzy Lee (Republic of Korea).
