About us

Any Encounter Between People Means an Encounter with Language.
If we want others to understand our culture, we must first help them understand our language. This is the principle that guides the Japan Foundation’s promotion of Japanese-language education overseas. The Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa was established in the city of Urawa (now the city of Saitama) in 1989 in order to respond to the rapid rise in the number of students learning Japanese, the diversification of their purpose for studying the language, and increasing calls for more assistance and closer cooperation from overseas.
