Small Exhibition “From Our Rare Book Collection” (January 2019)

This month we are displaying Japan: its architecture, art, and art manufactures, published in London in 1882.

The author Christopher Dresser (1834-1904) was a designer active in the United Kingdom in the latter half of the 19th century. He visited Japan in 1876 and toured arts and crafts production areas, shrines, temples, and other locations throughout Japan, before returning home. This book is a compilation of his exploration of Japanese art, and introduced Japanese architecture and art to Europe.
