“Sakura Network” Basic Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese-Language

This training program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language who belong to organizations of the Sakura Network, are early experience in teaching the Japanese language and are necessary to improve Japanese language skills further, with an opportunity to improve Japanese language skills and to deepen their knowledge of Japan.

Eligibility

  1. (1) Teachers of the Japanese-language who belong to organizations of the Sakura Network.
  2. (2) Individuals with more than 6 months of experience in teaching Japanese- language
  3. (3) Individuals who have a proficiency in Japanese of Level N4 or N5 in the JLPT, Level 3 or Level 4 of the old JLPT, or their equivalent
    *Those who have the ability of the level N3 (Level 2 of the old JLPT) or more of the JLPT are not expected for the program.
  4. (4) Individuals who are 55 years old or under.

Description of the Program

1. Classes

All lessons will be conducted in Japanese. To understand the content of the lessons and the basic vocabulary for daily life, participants will be required to have the language ability of level N5 on the JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) or Level 4 of the Old JLPT. The example of the weekly class schedule is as follows.

  1. (1) Sogo Nihongo (Japanese-Language)
    In this class, participants will learn 2 types of Japanese language; (a) Japanese language which is used in daily conversation and (b) Japanese- language which aims to talk about themselves and their experiences.
    This class will improve the Japanese language skills through various activities.
    Participants will be divided into some groups based on the result of a placement examination to be taken upon the beginning of the program.
  2. (2) Japanese society and culture
    The participants will learn and experience Japanese society and culture in various ways. Also, participants will study about Japan and Japanese people for example, “Japanese geography”, “Japanese songs and games” and “Calligraphy.”
  3. (3) Presentation about participants’ experience
    Participants will give a presentation about what they have experienced during the training program. They will create a slideshow presentation and will present it in Japanese.
  4. (4) Special Class
    Participants will learn about teaching materials and classroom activities which are helpful after their return to their country.

2. Cultural programs (example);

Field trips, homestay program, cultural demonstrations of tea ceremony and learning to wear yukata (Japanese summer kimono), etc.

* The participants are advised to bring those materials such as photographs and posters to introduce their countries.
