Graduate Program in Japanese Language and Culture(Master’s Course)

This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese-language working abroad and government officials who have experience in teaching the Japanese-language abroad and are expected to be leaders of the academic world of Japanese-language education in their own countries and regions, with an opportunity to obtain a Master’s degree in Japanese-language education.

This graduate program is offered by the following two institutions:

  1. (1) The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa (JFJLI, Urawa)
  2. (2) The National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS)

Duration

September 2018-September 2019 (1 year)


Eligibility

  1. (1) Teachers of the Japanese-language belonging to institutions providing Japanese-language education overseas or governmental organizations, or government officials who have taught Japanese-language in the past.
  2. (2) Individuals who hold a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited university.
  3. (3) Individuals with more than 2 years of experience in teaching the Japanese-language.
  4. (4) Individuals who have a proficiency in Japanese of Level N1 in the JLPT, Level 1 of the old JLPT, or their equivalent, or higher proficiency in Japanese.
  5. (5) Individuals who are 44 years old or under.

Description of the Program

The curriculum is organized from various courses through collaboration between the two institutions such as “Methods of Japanese teaching”, “Second language acquisition”, “Teacher education”, “Understanding of Japanese culture” etc.
Furthermore, participants will select a specific theme to research based on the circumstances of Japanese-Language education in their country or region. They will write a specific report on this theme through investigation and practice at their country or region.
