Invitation Program of Literary Editors from Central and Eastern Europe

Japanese books are translated and published in other languages and reach readers in different parts of the world. For more than half a century, the JF has supported publishers and editors around the world in their efforts to translate and publish Japanese books. (For details, please visit the Japan Foundation’s 50th anniversary website.)

In recent years, there has been a remarkable increase in the translation and publication of Japanese literary works in the world, and Central and Eastern Europe is no exception. In February 2024, the JF will invite eleven editors from this region, who are responsible for the translation and publication of foreign language books, to visit Japan for ten days.

During their stay in Japan, the invitees, from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, and Slovakia, will attend lectures by experts on Japanese literature and the Japanese publishing industry, participate in networking events, and visit local bookstores and publishers in several parts of Japan.
