Japanese-Language Programs
Participants in Japanese-language programs at the Institute vary greatly in their nationalities, mother tongues, motivation to study the Japanese language, professional goals, and fields of concern. In response to the diverse needs of the program participants, the Institute encourages them to take an initiative in daily studying, helping them with a moderate-sized library and well-equipped self-study room, offering tutoring, so that they can achieve their goals more effectively. Taking advantage of the "residential" programs we offer, the Institute provides participants with opportunities to be involved in exchange activities with local community members. In addition, the participants are able to gain a better understanding of the country, by attending lectures on Japan's society and culture, as well as taking part in "out-of-class" activities carefully articulated with language courses.
The Institute and its programs offer numerous features
1. Extensive Facilities
The Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai, is a comprehensive linguistic training center equipped with 18 classrooms of various sizes, a PC room, Japanese-style rooms for experiencing tea ceremonies and kimono dressing, a specialized library for Japanese studies, and a hall. Participants can learn Japanese language and Japanese culture through an intensive residential language program while staying in the dormitory at the Institute.
2. Excellent Learning Environment
Outside of class hours, participants have full access to the library, which is well stocked with a wide range of books and reference materials. It provides an ideal environment for focused study and for gathering information about Japanese culture and society.
An athletic room and tennis court are available for use during study breaks. There is also a splendid walking course from the Institute to the nearby beach.
3. Highly Experienced Specialists
Japanese-language teaching specialists with an abundance of overseas teaching experience handle everything from the planning of programs and designing of courses to actual class instruction.
4. Diversity of Programs
The Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai offers a wide variety of programs.
In addition to specialized Japanese-language training for foreign-service officers, public officials, and researchers or graduate students studying Japan, the Institute provides diverse programs such as study tours for overseas learners—from high school students to adult learners—to enhance their motivation to study Japanese, and training programs for non-native Japanese-language teachers working abroad.
Program durations vary widely, ranging from a few days to up to eight months.
The curriculum is not limited to language study alone; it also includes opportunities for interaction with Japanese people, field trips, and hands-on experiences of traditional and modern Japanese culture, allowing the Institute to meet a broad range of learning needs.
5. Towards Continued Learning
The programs include individual consultation and classes for reflection on learning that facilitate continued learning after participants return to their home countries.
