Long-Term Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese-Language

This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language in overseas organizations who are early in their career with an opportunity to improve their Japanese language skills, acquire the basic teaching methodology, and deepen their knowledge of Japan.

September 4, 2018 - March 1, 2019 (tentative)


Eligibility

  1. (1) Individuals who teach Japanese language at overseas educational organization.
  2. (2) Individuals with more than 6 months and less than 5 years of experience in teaching Japanese language.
  3. (3) Individuals who have a proficiency in Japanese of Level N4 in the JLPT, Level 3 of the old JLPT, or their equivalent.
  4. (4) Individuals who are 35 years old or under.

Description of the Program

1.Subjects

All lessons will be conducted in Japanese. Participants will be divided into groups based on the result of a placement examination to be taken upon arrival in Japan and will attend classes. In some cases, the program may be conducted in 2 separate courses based on the number of participants and their Japanese language proficiency.

<Japanese Language>
Participants will take classes that aim to improve their proficiency using the Japanese- language that will deepen their understanding of the Japanese language and culture. Participants will have a deeper understanding of their own culture and culture of other countries through interaction with their classmates.
<Japanese Language Teaching Methodology>
Participants will be able to reaffirm their basic knowledge of teaching methods that aims to improve their proficiency. In addition, participants will experience designing, conducting and reflecting on the Japanese language classes, which in turn will help them improve their classes when they return to their respective countries.

2. Cultural programs (example)

Field trips, homestay program, visits to local schools, cultural demonstrations of tea ceremony and other traditional arts, theatre excursions, etc.
