Basic Training Program for Teachers of the Japanese Language

This program is designed to provide young teachers of the Japanese language in overseas organizations who are early in their career with an opportunity to improve their Japanese-language skills, acquire the basic teaching methodologies, and deepen their knowledge of Japan. The training course will be conducted for approximately six months.

September 1, 2026 (Tue.) - February 25, 2027 (Thu.) (tentative)

Eligibility

Overseas educational organizations that offer Japanese-language education. Applications from individuals will not be accepted. Participants must satisfy the following conditions, in addition to “Eligibility [Common to All Courses]”.

  1. (1) Individuals who teach Japanese language at overseas educational organization (Higher priority will be given to applicants aged 35 or under).
  2. (2) IIndividuals with more than 6 months and less than 5 years of experience in teaching Japanese language.
  3. (3) Individuals who have a proficiency in Japanese of Level N4 in the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), Level 3 of the old JLPT, Level A2 or higher in the JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (JFS), or their equivalent.

Description of the Program

Participants will be divided into groups based on the result of a placement examination to be taken upon arrival in Japan and will attend classes. In some cases, the program may be conducted in two separate courses based on the number of participants and their Japanese-language proficiency.

Participants will take classes that aim, through various language activities, to improve their proficiency in using the Japanese language.
< Japanese-Language Teaching Methodology >
Participants will organize their basic knowledge of teaching methods, recognize their problems through trial classes and reviews of their Japanese teaching activities, and consider solutions.
< Japanese culture/Japanese society >
Participants will have exposure to Japanese culture and society in a real situations that will deepen their understanding of the Japanese language and culture. (Field trips and cultural programs are also planned)
Participants will obtain cross-cultural understanding ability through interaction with their classmates.
