[Announcement]Notice of cancellation of the 1st Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) in 2020 (July)

May 19 2020

Considering the global spread of the COVID-19, we regret to announce that the test in 2020 (July) of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), which was scheduled on July 5, is now cancelled at all testing sites outside Japan (initial plan: 157 cities in 48 countries). The Japan Educational Exchanges and Service (JEES) has also announced the cancellation of the said test in Japan.

JLPT is the worldwide large-scale test with over one million participants annually, requiring test takers and test proctors to stay in test venues over long hours. Given such circumstances, we have determined that it would be extremely difficult to both secure the safety of examinees and others concerned and to administer the test in an appropriate manner.

At the moment, the next test is to be held on December 6, 2020. We will inform you if any changes occur due to the possible spread of the COVID-19 outbreak in the future.
